There's
a lot of mis-information regarding the importance of search engines.
Facts
like:
Around
90% of all web page
hits
are via search engines
This
fact is distorted as it doesn't apply to everyone. Some sites do indeed
get hits at these levels but for most of us, we get hardly any.
If
for instance your web site deals with a very rare subject, then
your keywords used within it will be seen by search engines as more
significant than a web site that talks about common subjects like making
money etc.
It's
this keyword significance that gets your web site mentioned in preference
to others.
There's
a lot of advice on search engine rankings as it's known and plenty
of so called experts willing to take your money for getting your
web site ranked in the Top 10.
However
you'll need to pay out to these experts regularly to maintain your ranking
as without constant effort you'll loose your position.
For
low
budget Internet enterprises it's simply just not economic to spend
out on search engine placements, especially if your web site's content
is similar to many others.
There
are plenty of FREE submission schemes available for registering
your web site with search engines. Your web site will eventually get indexed by them but it may take
several months. There are also payment schemes available to accelerate
this process, but again don't bother.
There
are plenty of other more productive ways to promote your web site
which I'll discussed later. Relying on search engines to do this is unrealistic
nowadays.
